Terms of use

These terms apply to the relaii website, documentation, installation endpoint, and release downloads. relaii itself is software you operate; this website is not a hosted messaging service.

Effective 3 September 2026

The short version

  • The website and downloads are provided by Oclin AS.
  • Your organisation, not Oclin, operates and is responsible for its relaii server.
  • The software's accompanying open-source licence governs use of the software.
  • Inspect commands, keep backups, and decide whether a release is suitable before running it.
  • Do not misuse or interfere with the website or download infrastructure.

Provider and scope

The website is provided by Oclin AS, organisation number 916 749 724, registered at Sjukehusvegen 6A, 6103 Volda, Norway. In these terms, “website” includes relaii.app, install.relaii.app, releases.relaii.app, their documentation, and files made available through them.

By using the website, you agree to these terms. If you use it for an organisation, you confirm that you are authorised to act for that organisation. If you do not agree, do not use the website or its downloads.

There is no hosted relaii service

The website publishes information and software. It does not create relaii user accounts, host customer conversations, store the files uploaded to a self-hosted server, or sit between federated servers. A relaii installation is run by its operator on infrastructure the operator chooses.

Any relationship between an operator and the people using that operator's server is separate from these terms. The operator is responsible for its own user terms, privacy information, internal rules, and legal obligations.

Permitted use

You may browse, link to, and use the website and downloads for lawful purposes. You must not:

  • attempt to gain unauthorised access to the website, its server, or related systems;
  • interfere with availability, bypass rate limits or security controls, or impose an unreasonable load;
  • distribute malware through, or falsely present another product or service as endorsed by, the website; or
  • use the website in a way that infringes another person's rights or violates applicable law.

Good-faith security research must be limited to systems you own or have explicit permission to test. Do not test against the production website in a way that risks privacy, data, or availability.

Software licence and website content

Source code and release packages are governed by the open-source licence identified with the relevant source or distribution. That licence, rather than these website terms, controls your rights to use, copy, modify, and distribute the software. If these terms and that licence conflict about the software, the software licence prevails.

The relaii name, visual identity, website design, and site content remain protected by applicable intellectual-property law except where a separate licence expressly says otherwise. These terms do not grant a right to imply endorsement, partnership, or official status.

Your responsibilities as an operator

You decide whether relaii is appropriate for your organisation and remain responsible for the installation you operate. This includes:

  • having authority to use the server, domain, storage, and data involved;
  • reviewing installation and update commands before running them with elevated privileges;
  • configuring access, security, email, storage, retention, federation, and backups appropriately;
  • testing restores and updates in proportion to the importance of the installation;
  • keeping the software and its dependencies supported and up to date; and
  • complying with employment, privacy, records, content, and other laws that apply to your use.

Connecting to another server or sharing a channel can disclose information to that server's operator and users. Only connect and share when your organisation is authorised to do so.

Downloads, changes, and availability

We may correct documentation, replace or withdraw a release, change supported versions, or modify the website as the project develops. We may also restrict access that threatens security or availability. We do not promise that the website, a particular release, or a download endpoint will remain available indefinitely.

Release notes and checksums help you assess a download, but you are responsible for confirming the version and command you intend to use and for keeping a recoverable backup before installation or update.

Third-party services and links

The documentation may refer to operating systems, container images, storage providers, email providers, app platforms, or other third-party products. Their own terms and privacy policies apply. A reference or link is not a warranty or endorsement, and Oclin is not responsible for a third party's service or content.

Warranties and liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, the website, documentation, and downloads are provided “as is” and “as available”, without a promise that they will be uninterrupted, error-free, secure, or fit for a particular purpose. Technical information can become outdated, and no documentation replaces your own operational and legal assessment.

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Oclin is not liable for indirect or consequential loss, loss of data, loss of profit, or business interruption arising from use of, or inability to use, the website or downloads. Nothing in these terms excludes liability that cannot lawfully be excluded, including mandatory consumer rights or liability for wilful misconduct or gross negligence.

Governing law

These terms are governed by Norwegian law. Disputes are subject to the jurisdiction of the Norwegian courts, unless mandatory law gives you the right to bring a claim elsewhere. Consumers retain any mandatory protection provided by the law of their country of residence.

Changes and contact

We may update these terms when the website or project changes. The effective date above identifies the current version. Material changes apply prospectively from the updated date.

Questions about these terms can be sent to hello@oclin.no. Our handling of website information is described in the privacy policy.
